- Convenience: Whiten your teeth on your own schedule instead of having to attend dental visits for in-office whitening.
- Customization: Opalescence PF features custom-fitted trays, for optimal gel contact with enamel and comfort.
- Gradual Whitening: Because home whitening can be done over two weeks, you can stop using the trays when your enamel becomes the shade you like. Some people prefer a super-white smile, like those we see on television, and so they wear the trays for a full two weeks. Others prefer to stop after one week. If you have veneers, bonding, or crowns that show when you smile, you’ll want to whiten the enamel until it becomes the shade of the restorations. Note that restorations do not respond to teeth whitening of any kind.
- Cost-efficiency: Home whitening kits are more affordable than in-office whitening, and you can keep custom trays for reuse. Simply purchase additional syringes of gel from our office and whiten your teeth whenever they begin to darken.
- Reduced sensitivity: If you opt for Opalescence PF with custom trays, the gel you use will contain potassium nitrate, which helps minimize any dental sensitivity.
- Enamel strengthening: A fluoride additive in Opalescence PF strengthens tooth enamel. Adults don’t benefit from ingested fluoride, like that in tap water. Only topical fluoride strengthens permanent teeth.
The Process
Opalescence has two options for whitening. You can choose Opalescence Go, which comes with disposable, pre-filled trays that fit comfortably in the mouth. You may prefer Opalescence PF, which is made with potassium nitrate and fluoride to minimize sensitivity while helping to strengthen tooth enamel.
The trays with Opalescence PF are custom-fitted to the patient’s bite for optimal comfort and effectiveness. You’ll receive your trays, along with syringes filled with whitening gel. Apply the gel toa tray, then wear the tray as specified by Dr. Bilello–usually for a few hours or overnight. Some people whiten in the mornings and on their commute, while others prefer to wear the trays while sleeping.
